April is Child Abuse Prevention month. Around this time of year in Spokane you’ll likely see rainbow pinwheels appearing around town, symbolizing concern for child safety and welfare. Our Kids: Our Business, the coalition behind the pinwheel, is a yearly Call to Action orchestrated by the Spokane Prevention of Child Abuse/Neglect Council. Each April, they host a month long awareness campaign and bring experts and advocates to Spokane for a luncheon and training.

This year the Our Kids: Our Business Luncheon will be on April 13th.  It will feature Keynote speaker Jonathan Kozol, who has spent fifty years working with some of our nations most vulnerable children, and an afternoon training session from Kent Hoffman, co-founder of Circle of Security International and advocate for homeless youth. You can purchase tickets for the luncheon and training here.

In addition, Priority Spokane, a main sponsor of Our Kids: Our Business, will be hosting and evening reception and wrap up event featuring another short presentation from Jonathan Kozol. While this event is free, donations will be accepted for Crosswalk Teen Shelter. You can get tickets for the reception here, but register soon because the first 150 people to RSVP will be treated to complementary beer and wine!
