BHT's Equity Assessment Results

Our leadership team reviewed our Equity Organizational Assessment Results. Sigh, we have work to do.

It’s hard to look at the list of things that we have the intention to address and wonder how we do this AND all the other work required of us. And then we remember, THIS is a critical piece to how we meaningfully embed health equity into our work to radically improve the health of the region.

I feel fortunate that our Board is placing a high value on this work. In fact, as part of my 2020 Executive Director goals, I have outcomes to meet around diverse workforce retention and goals. My achievement of this is critical to meet their expectation of outstanding executive performance.

Additionally, our team is acutely aware that if we’re going to ask our partners to stretch into new ways of delivering care and embedding health equity into our work, then we don’t get to sit on the sideline and watch. If you want to read BHT’s Equity Assessment results, you can see them here.

Based on our results, we have prioritized the focus of our internal work for 2020 to be in the areas of HR and data. We are working on finalizing goals with the Board, but we’re leaning into:

  • Ensuring we have a diverse workforce

    • at least 40% of candidates in our selection process will meet DEI characteristics of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and veteran status

    • at least 40% of our BHT staff represent DEI characteristics of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, and veteran status

  • Aligning our team development, professional development, and culture work to include three organizational practices that apply the antidotes to a White Supremacy Culture

  • Tackling two data practices to ensure we have equity inclusive practices

One of my favorite quotes is, “Have a bias towards action–let’s see something happen now. You can break that big plan into small steps and take the first step right away,” Indira Gandhi.

We’re looking forward to sharing more of our journey with you as we venture down this road.
